European Food & HPC: Mixed WE Scanner performance, with

Beauty Strength, but ongoing Homecare weakness

This note covers latest trends in Western Europe Scanner data for the four weeks

ending 9th August.

Key highlights: CPG market performance remained mixed in the latest period. Beauty &

Personal Care emerged as the strongest category, accelerating to +5.0% value growth,

while Food softened slightly to +1.9%. Household remained under pressure, declining

-0.6%, and Consumer Health moved back into negative territory at -0.1%.‌

At the company level, Danone remained the strongest performer, accelerating to +6.4%

value growth. L'Oréal also strengthened significantly, with value growth improving to

+5.6%, while Beiersdorf delivered a notable recovery, moving +4.0%, underpinned by

strong volume gains. Nestlé continued to grow at +1.7%. Unilever stabilized at -0.8%,

improving slightly versus the previous period. Reckitt remained broadly flat at -0.1%,

Haleon stayed under pressure at -0.3%, reflecting ongoing volume declines. Henkel

remained challenged but improved to -4.3%. Lindt continued to face the most difficult

market conditions, with value sales declining -16.4%.

Food market delivered +1.9% value growth, softening from +2.4% in the prior period.

The slowdown was driven by a moderation in both volume and pricing trends, with volume

growth easing to +1.1% from +1.2%, while pricing growth declined to +0.8% from +1.2%.

Beauty & Personal Care (B&PC) market delivered +5.0% value growth, accelerating

significantly from +2.6% in the prior period. Growth was supported by stronger volume

gains of +6.9%, compared with +2.8% previously. Pricing remained negative at -1.8%,

deteriorating slightly from -0.2%, but this was more than offset by the sharp improvement

in volumes.

Household market remained in decline in the latest period, with value sales decreasing by

-0.6%, compared with -1.0% in the prior period. While volume growth deteriorated slightly

to -1.0% from -0.7% previously, the category benefited from a return to positive pricing
