Earlier this week, we hosted Iron Mountain (IRM) leadership for a day of investor
meetings in Toronto. We were joined in Canada by EVP and CFO Barry Hytinen,
as well as SVP - Investor Relations Mark Rupe. During our meetings, management
highlighted that Iron Mountain has reinvented itself as a growth company, with the
current course set by strategic decisions made years ago. Strong execution on these
plans has placed the company “in a sweet spot”, where revenue growth has
accelerated but capital intensity is no longer rising. Above all, management
stated that “ours is an execution story” and the team’s mandates are clear: (1)
cross-sell services across a massive customer base; (2) optimize the core Global
Records & Information Management (RIM) business for the long-haul; (3) build
and operate data centers in a focused manner to capture returns; and (4) drive
penetration in the fast-growing Asset Lifecycle Management (ALM) industry.
Overall, we felt management sounded quite confident in the trajectory of all
parts of the business and that the team is comfortable in its ability to meet and
exceed investor expectations, even as the bar for performance has been
meaningfully raised.
