United Utilities: progresses on Manchester Ship Canal

project

United Utilities on Friday said it had reached a key construction milestone in its

effort to improve water quality at the Manchester Ship Canal. "United Utilities has

made significant upgrades to its Warrington South wastewater treatment facility to

improve the quality of the treated water that is returned to the environment at the

end of the treatment process," the company said in a statement. All major civil

works at the site are now complete, with full completion set for in the autumn,

following electrical installations. The company is investing over £17mn on the

scheme. Bellhouse Lane, Halton, is one of the first sites in the UK to integrate

mobile organic biofilm technology into its processes, United Utilities said, helping

to improve the quality of treated wastewater and increase production capacity. "We

are always looking at new and innovative ways to treat wastewater in the North

West and improve water quality in rivers, lakes, and seas across the region," said

Maria Fletcher, county business lead for wastewater in Cheshire.
