Euro Stoxx 50 Index Consultation
J P M O R G A N Global Markets Strategy
20 July 2026
July 2026
On July 10, 2026, STOXX posted a consultation on proposed changes to the EURO Global Quantitative and Derivatives
STOXX 50 Index and its derived indices (see here). The consultation will be open Strategy
until September 4th, 2026. STOXX intends to publish consultation results and any Pankaj Gupta, CFA AC
potential methodology decision by October 2nd, 2026. If adopted, STOXX expects (44-20) 7134-5483
to implement any resulting methodology changes no earlier than September 2027 pankaj.gupta2@jpmorgan.com
and no later than September 2029, subject to the overall feedback on the proposed J.P. Morgan Securities plc
changes and implementation timing. STOXX is also seeking feedback on whether
to implement any changes all at once or in a phased manner.
Here are the proposed rule changes:
1. Removing the current Supersector Capping rule
Current Method: Within each of the 20 ICB Super Sectors, stocks are ranked by
free-float market capitalisation. Stocks are included in the SX5E selection list if
they fall within the top 60% of the free-float market capitalisation of the relevant
Super Sector index. If the next highest-ranked stock (just outside the top 60%)
brings overall coverage closer to 60% in absolute terms, that stock is also included
in the selection list, even if it is not in the top 60%. All current EURO STOXX 50
Index stocks are added to the selection list.
Proposed Change: All stocks from the EURO STOXX index are added to the
selection list in descending order of free-float market capitalization.
Removal of the Supersector Capping rule may make some stocks eligible for
inclusion at future reviews that are currently excluded due to supersector coverage
limits.
