Italian politics has been relatively quiet in recent months. That said, meaningful

shifts are under way: the far-right flank is fragmenting, and the government is

pursuing reforms to the electoral process. Budget discussions are also about to

begin, and political noise is likely to pick up. In this email, we take stock of these

developments and what they could mean for the timing and potential outcome of

the next general election.

The current parliamentary term expires in September 2027 and our base case

remains an election in autumn 2027. While we see a snap election this year as

unlikely—absent a major rupture within the coalition or a loss of the parliamentary

majority—there is a risk that elections are brought forward into spring 2027, as

recent press reports have suggested. Ultimately, both political dynamics and
