• IATA is calling for OEMs to loosen their control of the engine maintenance market in

order to reduce turnaround times. The report acknowledges OEM investments in new

capacity, but says airlines need more spare parts, more approved repair options, and fair

access to MRO capacity.

• In an interview with Aviation Week, Boeing CEO Kelly Ortberg indicated that the

timeframe for a new Boeing aircraft entering service is moving to the right, in part due

to the fact that the markets are further from being ready for a next-generation aircraft, with

airlines focused on getting existing equipment to perform better.

• In an interview with Aviation Week, Airbus CEO Guillaume Faury said that the company

is preparing the successor of the A320, which it will call eAction, with a view of launching

the platform in 2030 and the aircraft entering service in the second half of the next decade.

On potential engines for the aircraft, Faury said that while he would prefer to offer more

than one engine option, he is prepared to take the risk of going with one engine supplier

if necessary.

• Airbus is leaning toward developing an A220-500, Aviation Week reported, though it is

unclear whether that will be a simple stretch or involve more extensive changes to

preserve or extend range. It also seems likely that any stretch would involve only the GTF

engine.

• Airbus and Safran agreed to acquire Tikehau Capital’s stake in Aubert & Duval, a maker

of complex metal materials, valuing the company at $1.1b. Airbus, Safran, and Tikehau

Capital had acquired Aubert & Duval in April 2023, so Airbus and Safran will become
