• Overseas pension funds rethink investments in UK housing. The FT reports that (link)

two large overseas pension funds are pausing or reconsidering investments into UK

housing after getting stung by problems on recent assets, including post-Grenfell fire

safety costs. Aware Super, one of Australia’s biggest pension funds with A$200bn under

management, has halted investments in the sector, according to chief executive Deanne

Stewart. “We’ve seen several issues within that portfolio that we’re like, OK, nope. We

pause at this point,” she said in an interview. Oxford Properties, the real estate arm of the

C$145bn (US$105bn) Ontario Municipal Employees Retirement System (Omers), is

also thinking twice about certain future investments. The division “would be very

• Social housing plans cut back as UK delays funding. The FT reports (link) that

Housing associations are cutting building plans by a quarter over the next three years

because the government has delayed key funding, in a blow to Andy Burnham’s promises

of a big boost to council homes. Some of England’s biggest developers of social and

affordable housing say they will build thousands fewer homes than planned after officials

imposed limits on the spending of government grants before 2029.
