• The Nikkei has published an article giving details about the amount of public-

private investment in the 17 strategic sectors identified by the government.

• It reported substantial investments in AI and semiconductor-related areas, as

well as in areas such as games and groundbreaking pharmaceuticals.

• We could see further details about investments on a product/technology basis

this week (22–27 June).

Media report on public-private investment in 62 key products and technologies

The Nikkei published an article on 20 June giving details about the amounts of public-

private investment in the Japanese government's 17 strategic sectors and 62 specific

products and technologies. NHK had previously reported that public-private investment

would total around ¥370trn but had not given any breakdown of this figure (see our 19

June 2026 report Japaneconomicperspective-Mediareportsputpublic-private

investmentin17strategicareasataround¥370trn). We think the government may well

make an announcement giving further details sometime this week (22–27 June).
