UK Economics - BoE - Steady as she goes Global Economic Outlook & Strategy -
The Bank of England's MPC voted to hold at 3.75% as expected, with Megan Global Resilience—Could Growth
Greene joining Huw Pill as a second dissenter for a 25bps hike. While the Surprise to the Upside (Yet Again)?
communications was still on the hawkish end, they are now starting to lean
against given the underlying weakness in the real economy. The MPC still care
about the potential impact of inflationary persistence and second round effects,
but at this juncture, they are placing their emphasis on demand-management. We
continue to expect a hold this year, with the next cut in 2027Q2. Rates strategy
view: The June MPC reinforces expectations for a long hold, but residual hike
premium in SONIA is likely to reduce only slowly.

UK Economics - Labour Market Release: Labour market data for April more
hawkish, but still cooling
At first glance, the labour market data looks to have surprised on the upside: AWE
Regular Pay came in stronger than expected; the April payroll data didn't fall as
expected; and the expected fall in LFS employment ended up being much less.
However, there is more than meets the eye: AWE regular pay growth was once
again driven by public sector pay strength, and it appears that employment growth
continues to be driven by those in self-employment jobs.
