After 18 months into new leadership, FIVE is a different company now. This is

driving sustainable growth.

The company has become more disciplined, strategic, and organized around its

mission. Culturally, Five Below is aligned across its various functions and there’s a

sense of excitement with the opportunity ahead. It’s a much different atmosphere

inside the organization compared to the pandemic and immediately after.

After losing its way a bit during those years, FIVE has made several changes that

have altered the trajectory of the business. It has clarified its customer focus and

created a more granular approach to customer segmentation. This focus has

enabled better alignment between merchandising and marketing.

The company has brought in more relevant, new & exciting merchandise for its

customers. And it has reoriented its marketing strategy towards meeting

customers where they are at. For instance, its Gen Z customers are mostly on Tik

Tok, while its Gen Alpha customers are more concentrated on YouTube TV. It’s

moved to emphasizing these media channels away from television and print media

(circulars), which it had leaned into the past.

Also, it is evolving from single item merchandising towards storytelling across

product lines.

While the impact of the changes has materialized faster than what the company

expected, FIVE stressed that it remains in the early innings of the gains that it

expects to deliver.
