July app trends reflect World Cup & Prime Day timing

We track monthly global mobile app DAUs and downloads per Sensor Tower to gauge

user trends across top subsectors including social media, eCommerce, gig economy, and

travel. For July, the World Cup likely drove YouTube DLs, which were up a strong 80%

y/y, though the benefit to ticketing apps faded (Stub DAU growth slowed 25ppts).

eComm apps generally slowed in July (Amazon DAUs decel’d 8ppts m/m) following Prime

Day, though Etsy DAUs remained stable. Uber DAUs were stable at 10% y/y, compared

to Instacart DAUs decelerating 7ppts on tougher comps. Y/Y growth for AI apps is robust

but slowing, with ChatGPT up approx. 40%, Gemini up 270%, and Claude up 1,000%+.

Facebook DAUs contracted 7% y/y in July, a 1ppt decel from June, while Instagram

DAU growth of 6% y/y accel’d 2ppts m/m. YouTube DAUs grew 1% y/y in July (stable

m/m), while DLs grew a strong 80% y/y (77ppt accel), likely reflecting its partnership

with the World Cup to stream select matches. Snap DAUs grew 4% y/y (2ppt accel),

while DLs fell 12% (12ppt accel). Pinterest DAUs grew 17% y/y (2ppt accel) and DLs

were up 4% y/y (2ppt decel). Reddit DAUs grew 3% (3ppt m/m accel), and DLs grew

33% (4ppt accel), a positive given 3Q search traffic uncertainty. Roblox DAU slowed

8ppts to 1%. Google DAUs grew a stable 12% y/y, though DLs declined 14% y/y

Amazon DAUs declined 4% y/y in July (8ppt decel vs June) likely reflecting Prime Day

timing while DLs were down 17% (18ppt decel). eBay DAUs declined 8% y/y (5ppt decel

m/m), but DLs grew 10% y/y. Etsy DAUs grew a stable 5% y/y, while DLs contracted

19% (stable vs June). Chewy DAUs grew 10%, a 5ppt m/m accel, while DLs slowed 1ppt

to -23%. Wayfair DAUs declined 9% y/y (decel’d 4ppts on a 12ppt easier comp) and
