DETAILS

Welcome to the 2026 edition of Bernstein’s Electric Revolution series - our annual cross-sector look at the transformation of

the EV landscape. This year, we focus on supply chain resilience, a theme rising in importance as EV adoption diverges by region

and geopolitical risks intensify. OEMs and suppliers face growing pressure to anticipate, navigate, and recover quickly from

disruptions across sourcing, production, and logistics, etc. In this note, we examine the role of charging infrastructure, a key driver

of consumer willingness to embrace the new technology, in enabling and underpinning the EV roll-out.

CHARGING INFRASTRUCTURE AVAILABILITY IS A KEY ENABLER OF EV ADOPTION

It is clear that as consumers contemplate a new EV purchase, availability of public charging infrastructure is front of mind.

Put negatively, a 2024 consumer survey conducted by EY found that 27% of respondents cited “lack of charging stations”

as a key concern about EVs, alongside the related concerns of “limited range of EVs” (25%) and EV charging duration (18%).

A November 2025 UK survey for the Department of Transport reported similar findings. In our view, improving the public EV

charging experience, both in speed and in availability, is a vital pre-requisite for pushing EVs into the mainstream.

CONSUMERS CONCERNS RELATED TO EVS ARE DOMINATED BY CHARGING CONSIDERATIONS

As set out in Exhibit 1, concerns relating to charging infrastructure are some of the most commonly cited consumer fears in

relation to EV adoption.
