€13.59bn in investment to meet national needs and PNIEC 2023-2030 targets. The plan aims to connect 27.7GW via transmission

and 5.3GW via distribution, including 422 grid upgrades. Planned investment exceeds the €8.203bn allocated for 2021-2026, with

additional funding for interconnections and EU-backed projects. It is estimated that by 2030, investment in transmission networks

would increase by €3.6bn and in distribution networks by €7.7bn, exceeding the projected levels of 0.065 % and 0.13% of GDP for

the coming years.

NORDICS

• Fortum to end coal-fired power generation in Finland (Fortum). Fortum has decided to close and dismantle its Meri-Pori coal

power plant. Electricity generation at the plant will end, and the facility will be permanently closed as of 1 March 2027. Fortum and

City of Pori are pursuing strong new growth in the Meri-Pori Tahkoluoto area together with other industrial operators, and the area will

be developed into a nationally significant clean transition industrial zone. In June 2026, the Pori City Council approved the Tahkoluoto-

Pakaarit component master plan, enabling new investments and a wide range of industrial activities in the area. The existing power

line connected to Meri-Pori plant will remain in place to support future electricity-intensive operations.

UK

• No delay to UK renewables auction after Starmer’s resignation (Platts). The UK will proceed with its next renewable energy

auction as planned despite Keir Starmer’s resignation as prime minister and rumors of a potential promotion for Energy Secretary

Ed Miliband, the government confirmed June 24. The indicative timeline for AR8 of the UK’s CfD auction regime still stands, a

spokesperson for DESNZ said.
