Three Doctors in July: Electrophysiology – Yet More Room for Volume
Growth Amongst Key Procedures
CITI'S TAKE
We hosted our final “Three Doctors in July” call with Dr. Mohit Turagam, an
electrophysiologist practicing in New York City. He performs a wide mix of
procedures, notably spending 60% of his time on ablations, 20% on LAAC Joanne WuenschAC
implants, 5% on renal denervation, and the remaining 15% on other device +1-212-816-9606
implants (pacemakers, defibrillators, etc.). Outside of atrial fibrillation (AF, joanne.wuensch@citi.com
up 10-12% in 2026E), he also performs ablations for ventricular Anthony Occhiogrosso
tachycardia (VT, up 5% y/y), premature ventricular contraction (PVC, up +1-212-816-7579
5%), and supraventricular tachycardia (SVT, flattish). Our conversation anthony.occhiogrosso@citi.com
focused on his preference for specific catheters for ablation procedures in
different types of arrythmias, his trends in LAAC implants and takeaways Jane-Marie Lai
from the CHAMPION data, and the ongoing ramp of renal denervation +1-212-816-3628
janemarie.lai@citi.com (RDN) procedures. We come away from the discussion incrementally
positive on the growth outlook of key EP procedures. We rate ABT, BSX, Nikhil Guddeti
JNJ, and MDT Buy. +1-212-816-2606

Ablation procedure volumes continue increasing while making use of a broad
toolkit. Dr. Turagam expects to perform ~450 AF cases this year, up from 400 last
year, and increasing to 470-480 next year. All of his AF ablations are done using a
PFA catheter: 40% Medtronic’s Affera Sphere-9, 20% Boston Scientific’s Farapulse,
