Summer, long before Taylor Swift came out with a song with the same name (not a cover Barclays, UK
version) in 2019. Although Swift's modern synth-pop is quite different from Bananarama's 1980s
post-punk/pop, both songs carry the theme of sweltering summer heat and broken
relationships. Investors this week may relate: they endured hot temperatures alongside
renewed geopolitically induced energy price pressures and sharp sell-offs in semi-conductor
stocks as momentum trades unwound amid heightened nervousness around the broader AI
narrative. It's a cruel summer.
