regulations, according to a survey commissioned by Clearpay reported by Retail Week
yesterday. Clearpay said 61% of respondents believe the changes will improve consumer
protection, while 42% said affordability checks would increase their confidence in using BNPL
services. Usage remains widespread, with 39% of consumers having used BNPL and more than
half of millennial respondents reporting previous use.
CMA clears eBay’s planned acquisition of Depop. The UK Competition and Markets Authority
(CMA) has cleared eBay’s proposed acquisition of fashion resale platform Depop following an
initial review, allowing the transaction to proceed, reported Retail Week yesterday. eBay
announced in February that it would acquire Depop from Etsy for approximately $1.2bn, adding
a platform with around 7 million active buyers, roughly 90% of whom are under 34 years old,
and strengthening its exposure to younger consumers and the second-hand fashion market.
ASOS appoints former Amazon executive as global head of trading. ASOS has appointed
former Amazon executive Lizzie Jones as global head of trading, reported Retail Week
yesterday. Jones, who previously began her career in the buying team at ASOS and has also
held roles at Tesco and Soletrader, will oversee the retailer’s global trading operations,
including market trading, digital trading, on-site content and marketing.
