st A350 variant. The aircraft, D-AIFA, has been painted in Lufthansa’s centenary livery and is

scheduled to transfer from Toulouse to Munich this autumn following test flights, cabin

completion and customer acceptance. The aircraft will be named Deutschland and will become

the 700th Airbus delivered to Lufthansa Group. Lufthansa has ordered 15 A350-1000s for

delivery by 2030, with the type initially based exclusively at Munich. The fleet will support

premium long-haul growth and the eventual replacement of older widebodies, with the

A350-1000 also viewed as a potential successor to the A380 at Munich.

Lufthansa’s 300-seat layout sits below several existing airline configurations, reflecting the

space allocated to the Allegris premium cabins. For comparison BA operates the A350-1000 in

three classes with 331 seats, whilst Virgin Atlantic flies with two configurations, one with 335

seats across three classes and a leisure configuration with 397 seats across three classes.

Lufthansa’s new 787 service creates Business Class lavatory constraint

aeroTELEGRAPH (15 July) reports that Lufthansa’s new Project Fox long-haul service concept

has created an operational issue on Boeing 787 flights because one Business Class lavatory

must be closed temporarily during meal preparation. The airline is using the forward area to

support a more elaborate premium catering service, reducing lavatory availability at specific

stages of the flight. Project Fox is intended to improve Lufthansa’s long-haul hospitality and

food presentation, but the 787 galley and lavatory layout leaves less working space than on

some other widebody types.
