We do not believe that Anthropic’s teacher-support tool competes with Pearson’s

Virtual Schools business model, which provides an end-to-end service to US states

for online schooling. Pearson’s Virtual Schools services include: the hiring of

teachers, digital learning platform and marketing to students. The state contracts are

multi-year with public funding allocated on a per-pupil basis. Pearson does provide

digital curriculum and platform tools (including some AI-based tools) to the teachers

at its online schools, which we believe are included within the per-pupil funding from

the state, rather than being directly monetised and are a small part of the offering.

We also note that Pearson completed the sale of its US K-12 courseware business in

2020.
