SulA/SAUD/HAPV: Household indebtedness and readjustments at high levels
weigh on sector expansion
News reports indicate high household debt levels and pressure on family budgets
are affecting the private healthcare market. Reportedly, with 49.8% of households
indebted and a delinquency rate of 7.2%, the ability to absorb readjustments is
limited; and this disconnect between costs and income is leading Brazilians to
reassess spending on health plans, which is reflected in increased searches on
digital platforms that compare plan prices and benefits. On the Click Planos
marketplace, simulations reportedly rose from 140 in Dec-25 to 3.3k in Jan-26.
UBS's view: Reads tend to be negative to health plan operators (SulA/SAUD/HAPV).
The trends highlighted in the news are likely to put pressure on the Individual and
SME segments, while the slowdown in formal job creation in the country is expected
to affect the corporate segment. Altogether, this points to a more challenging
environment for beneficiary growth in the sector, which is likely to lead to a more
competitive landscape among operators. This is reinforced by an observed increase
in demand for price comparisons on digital platforms and may intensify portfolio
