+60% y/y). Q2 to date, we estimate that North American/CGX BO reached 91%/98% of 2019
Cheryl Zhang, CFA^ levels (we attribute the difference to market share gains and outperformance on international

Weekend (Week 23) Trailer
Last weekend's top release, Scary Movie 6, reported 3-day opening weekend domestic box
office (WDBO) of ~US$55mm, above the top end of its pre-release industry estimate range (US
$35-52mm) and reaching the highest WDBO in the franchise. As per Deadline, ~26% of WDBO
came from premium large formats, which we see as remarkable for a non-action comedy
title and underscores the robust demand for premium experiences. In addition, 75% of the
audience was under 35, a positive sign that the younger generation remains engaged with
theatrical releases despite the entrenched streaming environment.
The past weekend was also highlighted by strong holds of recent, record-breaking original
releases, including Backrooms (US$26mm over 2nd weekend) and Obsession ($26mm over
4th weekend, only -7% from prior weekend). This is encouraging in our view, suggesting quality
original content is back and winning audience, which not only supplements the BO but also
offsets some of the concentration risk around tentpole movies. Overall, we estimate that
Cineplex (CGX-T, BUY, C$11.42, C$16.00 target price) generated ~$12mm in BO this past
weekend.
