Buybacks key growth pillar, deleverage could be a catalyst
Cash flow and capital return continue to be a key pillar of the PBI story. FCF is tracking
better than expected ($44mn in 1Q26, first time positive 1Q19), even as underlying
working capital dynamics (particularly within Presort) can introduce some volatility
quarter-to-quarter. Notably, restructuring cash outlays are winding down, supporting
cleaner conversion moving forward.
Management continues to prioritize share buybacks (shares 20% lower YoY) and
dividend increase with plans to reduce debt this year (targeting full paydown of ’27
notes by FY26) reinforcing confidence in the durability of cash flow and supportive of
equity valuation. At the same time, the company may lean into small bolt-on M&A in
Presort (historically transacts at ~3-4x multiples with immediate earnings accretive) to
drive incremental volume and margin leverage. Finally, PBI could extend use of the PB
Bank deposit base (pending FDIC approval) to a larger portion of SendTech customer
leases which could enhance capital flexibility and support funding efficiency given a
lower cost of funding.
Raise PO to $16.50, shares largely pricing inflection
We raise our PO to $16.50 on 7x EV/EBITDA (from $9.50 on 5.5x), reflecting improving
execution, stronger capital returns, and progress on stabilizing topline. While green
shoots across sales, churn, and volumes are forming, revenue is still expected to decline
2.4% this year and structural industry headwinds remain intact. We look for additional
