Latin America Airlines
Weekly Capacity Scheduling Tracker (July-31)
CITI'S TAKE
Filipe Nielsen AC
This is our tracker to assess how airlines in Latin America are allocating +55-11-4009-5213
capacity over the coming months, highlighting changes in flights and seat filipe.nielsen@citi.com
offerings on a weekly basis. This week’s changes looked mixed among
carriers, with fuel volatility apparently limiting carriers’ visibility and
driving mixed reactions. Copa sustained the big increments from last
week, while LATAM increased near-term capacity but considerably
trimmed longer-term schedules. Mexican carriers increased growth in
the 4Q, with Volaris’s adjustments being the highlight. More details are
discussed below. Detailed charts are in the note.
Copa — Changes this week were mild, with targeted cuts concentrated in August.
The net decrease of 11 flights (-0.3% seats) came mainly from reallocating flights to
Venezuelan markets.
LATAM Airlines — Meaningful adjustments happened across the entire network. In
Brazil domestic, there were net cuts close to -1.0% seats/month from November
onwards, through offering less frequencies with the same flights. In Domestic SSC,
capacity growth in 3Q increased by +0.4p.p., with incremental seats at Peruvian and
Chilean markets for August and September. On the other hand, there were frequency
cuts from November onwards in all Andean countries. International followed similar
cuts in flights and frequencies from November onwards.
Aeromexico — Changes were concentrated on domestic markets, with a decrease
of -0.4% in available seats in October offset by net increments of +0.4% in
November and December.
