Weekly Capacity Scheduling Tracker (July-24)
CITI'S TAKE
Filipe Nielsen AC
This is our tracker to assess how airlines in Latin America are allocating +55-11-4009-5213
capacity over the coming months, highlighting changes in flights and seat filipe.nielsen@citi.com
offerings on a weekly basis. This week’s changes looked mixed among
carriers, demonstrating the strength of Copa’s network and the
challenges in Mexican domestic markets (partially offset by positive
international adjustments from Volaris and Aeromexico). LATAM’s
adjustments were mild and to the negative side. More details are
discussed below. Detailed charts are in the note.
Copa — This week the airline performed more significant capacity growth increases.
Changes in August and November were modest, with +12 flights (+0.3% seats) in
August and +19 flights (+0.4% seats) in November. On the other hand, the carrier
added +22 flights (+0.7% seats) in December and +141 flights (+4.1% seats) in
January, mostly to Argentinian, Brazilian and Central American markets.
LATAM Airlines — The meaningful adjustments happened in domestic SSC and
international markets. In Domestic SSC they increased capacity growth by 0.3p.p.
in August, evenly adding seats through upgauging in Peru, Colombia and Chile.
Changes on international were mild and on the negative side, with a slight increase
in August offset by net cuts of -8 flights/month (-1.2% seats) in the Peru – Miami
route, from November onwards.
Aeromexico — Changes were mostly concentrated on domestic markets this week,
with -138 flight cuts (-4.6% seats) in September partially offset by a net increment
