DBX 2Q26 Earnings Preview
DBX has significantly outperformed software YTD (+32.6% vs. IGV), likely on some
mix of a return to growth, relative stability vs. other parts of software, and some
shift in sentiment with DBX potentially becoming a neocloud. We see most of the
improved sentiment as unsustainable as we look for incremental opportunities to
drive sustainable growth as we see fundamentals supported by web traffic trends
remaining mixed.
Our analysis of web traffic trends, conducted in collaboration with Citi’s Research
Innovation Lab, points to a weaker user environment for DBX in 2Q26 with
headwinds seen in our 1Q26 data only getting worse. Total visitors across web and
mobile are down -8.9% y/y in 2Q26 (vs. -4.0% in 1Q26) with trends across mobile
and web users worsening through the quarter, exiting June at a lower rate than for
the quarter. Organic search traffic remained a headwind (-13% y/y and -5% q/q) but
paid search was better on an easier comp (+86% y/y but also +3% q/q) with GenAI
traffic showing strong growth (on a low base).
Dash trends remain soft but are likely a reflection of DBX moving to an integrated AI
model rather than Dash existing as a standalone product. Surprisingly, Formswift
activity improved materially in 2Q26 off of a low base, potentially driving upside,
but could reflect a change in strategy if DBX decides to invest in that segment
again.
Headcount continues to grow with total employees (per LinkedIn) up 8% in the past
6 months and up 12% in the past year (13% y/y last quarter), potentially impacting
margin expansion as DBX continues to hire at a faster rate than what revenue is
growing.
