On July 6, the EU adopted Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/1540, Industry View In-Line

imposing definitive anti-dumping duties on Chinese-made tires (for passenger

cars, buses, and trucks).

Competition in the European market is likely to ease somewhat, but the impact

on Japanese tire firms should be neutral, as Japanese tire companies’ European

sales weightings are only around 10%.

Anti-dumping duty rates are 4.3%-45.3%. The EU noted that Chinese-made tires’

share of the European market rose from 18% in 2021 to 28% in 2024.

Sumitomo Rubber’s Chinese subsidiaries (Changshu, Hunan) are listed as subject

to a 24.4% duty, but we infer the impact will be limited given the small number of

imported tires.

We estimate European tire sales ratios (F12/25; for passenger cars, buses/trucks)

at 15% for Bridgestone, 9% for Sumitomo Rubber, 8% for Yokohama Rubber, and

6% for Toyo Tire.

On July 6, the EU adopted Commission Implementing Regulation (EU) 2026/1540

imposing definitive anti-dumping duties on Chinese-made tires for passenger cars
