We expect CPO prices to remain at ~MYR4,500/MT by 18 June 2026
The spot price for CPO (crude palm oil) declined over 1% w-w to MYR4,493/MT in the
week ended 11 June, according to the Malaysian Palm Oil Board (MPOB). This we believe
was largely due to rising inventory levels in Malaysia and improving exports. For the next
week, we expect prices to remain relatively steady as concerns around higher palm oil
supply is balanced by rising exports. Overall, we expect the average CPO price to
remain at MYR4,500/MT by 18 June. However, if there is de-escalation of the West Asia
conflict, CPO prices could decline to ~MYR4,400/MT, in our view.
Indonesia scales back commodity export centralization plan
According to Bloomberg News (link), Indonesia is retreating from its controversial
proposal to centralize exports of strategic commodities following pushback from buyers
and exporters. According to government officials, authorities will instead implement
enhanced monitoring mechanisms on key commodity exports to prevent underreporting of
shipment values and tax evasion. We believe this represents a significant policy shift from
the original plan, which would have funnelled overseas sales of coal, palm oil, and
ferroalloys through a state-linked entity Danantara (unlisted), a proposal which raised
