What to expect this week:

jaret.seiberg@tdsecurities.com

■Senate may take up the House housing package though we believe changes are likely.

■Federal Reserve Chair Kevin Warsh on Wednesday gives his first post-FOMC meeting press

conference.

■SEC on Thursday holds a closed-door meeting on enforcement issues.

■Government is closed on Friday.

We appreciate the focus this week will be on Kevin Warsh who presides over his first FOMC

meeting as Federal Reserve chair. Warsh will face the media Wednesday at 2:30 PM following

the release of the latest monetary policy statement.

This will be a significant public appearance as Warsh will be pressed to better explain not just

his view about monetary policy but also on how the Fed should communicate its intentions

and how it should manage the balance sheet.

Yet we believe the market also should be looking at the Senate and whether it tackles housing

legislation. We have long argued that the housing bill helps manufactured housing but is

otherwise more about sending a message that Congress cares about housing rather than a

comprehensive plan to address housing.

That message, however, matters. This is because we believe enactment of this bill will put

pressure on Congress next year to pass a more comprehensive housing package that could

include subsidies for entry-level single-family housing, money to rehabilitate housing and

training programs to create the workforce needed to build houses.
