remain a sizeable balancing mechanism against the shortfall in the global oil market.
Throughout May, our oil colleagues estimated that 2.9 mbd of oil and products still moved
through the Strait. This appears to have increased to as much as 5.1 mbd in June month-to-
date, equivalent to roughly 25% of the disrupted flows, although 0.8 mbd of these are Iranian
volumes that are highly uncertain (Oil Flash Note: Schrödinger’s Strait, Kaneva et al, 12 June
2026). In addition to the already observed or estimated transits, back in the May there were
around 220 laden and 150 ballast oil and product tankers inside the Strait, while some of these
have potentially exited the waterway, many of them still remain inside which would provide
sizeable volumes to global markets in the first few weeks following a reopening of the Strait

RWE: All turbines installed at 1.4GW Sofia wind farm off UK
Renewables Now reports that RWE has installed all 100 Siemens Gamesa turbines at the
1.4GW Sofia offshore wind farm off the UK’s East coast. The last of the project’s 14MW
turbines was installed on June 10. Turbine installation was carried out by jack-up vessel Wind
Peak, owned by Cadeler. The wind farm is located in the shallow waters of the Dogger Bank
area in the central North Sea, more than 200 km off the coast. Currently, the high voltage
direct current (HVDC) distribution system is being tested and commissioned before the
turbines are connected to it.
