Research evidence excerpt

DocuSign Inc (DOCU US) Hold: Improved narrative, unchanged growth reality

lows.

For the sector, we believe that agreement management is becoming less about standalone

contract repositories and more about embedded workflows, proprietary document data, identity,

and AI-accessible orchestration. Our bear case for DocuSign is that Microsoft, Salesforce,

OpenAI, Anthropic, and legal AI specialists capture the user interface layer, while DocuSign

remains the workflow data utility, in our view.

Valuation remains a key component of our Hold rating: at 9.9x CY26 PE, the shares already

discount a deterioration scenario. While IAM momentum and capital returns are supportive, we

still see limited visibility on the pace of sustained re-acceleration. Overall, we see AI pressure

concentrated in SMB, but we believe the enterprise franchise should remain resilient and sticky,

with IAM increasingly the main upside lever, albeit one that needs more time and proof to drive

a more constructive rating.

1QFY27 results review

Q1FY27 delivered revenue of USD830m (9% y-o-y, c7.1% in organic term), 32% operating

margin, and 35% free cash flow margin, alongside a record USD318m buyback. Importantly,

FY27 ARR guidance was reiterated.

Product innovation. At the Momentum customer event, DocuSign announced new IAM

products and partnerships across several functions. For legal teams, it introduced legal-specific

contract assistants and agents that can triage, review, and advance documents toward closing

using company policies and prior negotiation history. It also deepened partnerships with

Anthropic, Harvey, Legora, and Thomson Reuters’ CoCounsel Legal. In procurement, DocuSign

partnered with Coupa to enable cross functional workflows from within the Coupa application.
