Takeaways from VeeamON Analyst Session
Brad Zelnick
Privately held Veeam Software hosted a user conference in New York this week Research Analyst
which included an analyst briefing that we attended. We come away from the +1-212-250-8563
event better appreciating the growing strategic importance of data resilience
platforms for enabling the safe adoption of GenAI. Following the acquisition of Nasr Islam
Research Associate Securiti AI, Veeam has transformed itself into a Data and AI trust company which +1-212-250-6174
uses granular data- and identity-informed context to guardrail sensitive data from
errant AI use without compromising performance. Data itself has become a tier-
one asset and according to the company should be a key control point for AI. With
Veeam's leadership in data protection (~14% market share per IDC), this
represents a natural next act as the company goes to market with a novel platform
built on a unified, multi-modal data fabric. The end-to-end AI trust platform is
compelling as it enables customers to detect, protect, and undo AI, though the
competitive landscape has never been noisier as traditional security vendors (i.e.,
ZS), broader software vendors (i.e., NOW), and disruptive upstarts (i.e., Cyera)
stake overlapping (albeit, not fully duplicative) claims to this burgeoning
opportunity. Nonetheless, the data resilience platforms have a coherent "right to
win" in this market, and while we appreciate the differences between the
respective visions laid out by Veeam, RBRK, and others, our time at today's
session reinforces our view that Rubrik's acquisitions of Predibase and Laminar
were prescient.
