Surprise CEO resignation casts uncertainty; CFO takes

over as CEO

In a sudden development, GCPL has appointed Mr. Aasif Malbari – currently

Global CFO and President Godrej Africa – as Managing Director & CEO, effective

immediately (12 August), succeeding Mr. Sudhir Sitapati, who has resigned as MD

& CEO after nearly five years with the company. Notably, this comes days after the

shareholders had approved the reappointment of Sudhir as MD & CEO for five

years w.e.f. October 2026 during GCPL’s AGM held on 7 August. Sudhir was

earlier appointed as MD & CEO for five years w.e.f. October 2021. Sudhir’s

Aasif joined GCPL in August 2023. He has three decades of experience across the

FMCG and auto industries, at GCPL, HUL and Tata Motors. At GCPL, as Global

CFO, he oversaw business strategy and led the turnaround of GCPL’s Africa

business. Previously, he was the CFO at Tata Passenger Electric Mobility and

Director at Tata Motors Passenger Vehicles.

Mr. Vishal Kedia, currently Head-Strategy, FP&A and Investor Relations, has been

appointed as the Interim CFO of GCPL.

The uncertainty surrounding an unexpected CEO transition will weigh on the share

price in the short term in our view. Potential compression in valuation multiples

until investors gain confidence in the new leadership team may occur, though

internal succession reduces the probability of execution disruption.
