GCPL’s management narrative on the earnings call (First Take) was balanced.

Portfolio diversification is aiding the company to lower the impact of subdued HI

offtake (weak June) and lower fill-rates for LPG-linked categories (aerosols, sprays)

on overall India vol growth (+7% in Q1). Revenue growth rates should gradually

improve (8%+ vol) as some of these headwinds fade and contribution from faster

growing segments rises. Margin narrative was somewhat cautious/uncertain in the

near term (Q2) and commodity volatility will continue to influence the trajectory.

Nevertheless, GCPL expects normative India margin to land for FY27 led by an

improvement in 2H. Overseas operational performance was a stand out, particularly

led by Africa and improved trends in Indonesia and this drives up our overseas

Revenue and EBITDA forecasts. We tweak our FY27/28E earnings up by 1-3%. Even

as Q1 operational performance was in-line and management guided for FY27 to land

better (vs earlier expectations), we believe higher volume growth and revival in

margins would be required to build confidence in this name.

India: Decent performance. India volume of 7% was weighed down by a poor

June (poor HI season) and 20-25% lower fill rates on LPG-linked categories

such as Air Fresheners; mgmt sees this at the lower end and views India as an

~8% volume business, supported by HI recovery and speedboats’ continued

growth. GCPL gained overall market share in HI, led by sharp share gains in

incense-sticks. Fab continues to grow strong DD while Spic is being scaled up

nationally. Personal care improved to 11% (on a soft base) led by soap volumes

growing early single digit (expected to accelerate on a soft base in coming qtrs)

and strong Hair Colour performance (for both Creme and Shampoo Hair

Colour). Speedboats standalone salience rose ~300bps y/y to 17%. Standalone
