and consumer information) to deliver richer, more qualified leads.
Competitive Landscape: Fragmentation in Dealer Alternatives,
New Entrant Brands, and Emerging AI Interfaces
Management’s observations on competitive dynamics in dealer acquisition and
marketing spend pointed to a highly fragmented landscape rather than a single “winner”
taking share. When dealers reduced spend or churned in response to Deal Builder-
related issues, as per management there was no one consistent competitor that absorbed
volumes - customers redistributed spend across a range of channels including Cargurus,
Cazoo, Carwow, Motors, eBay, Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree, paid search and newer
social channels. From a feedback perspective, management noted that feedback heard
was broadly consistent with the notion that some alternatives may be cheaper, but lead
quality is not always comparable. At the same time, and from an AI perspective,
management would expect a new set of competitors to emerge and attempt to replicate
the Auto Trader experience, including specialist aggregators operating in this domain,
alongside both existing and new entrants.
