involving corporates and infrastructure projects. Investor discussions increasingly focus
on whether these developments signal a renewed phase of broad-based anti-corruption
tightening similar to previous cycles. We spoke to Dr. Le Hong Hiep, a political/economic
expert at the ISEAS-Yusof Ishak Institute. Our discussion with him support our view that
anti-corruption enforcement remains a structural feature of Vietnam's governance
framework. Recent cases appear concentrated around commercial activities and state-
asset management rather than representing a broader campaign targeting senior
government officials.
Gold and diamond probe may greater participation in financial assets
With regard to the recent scrutiny of diamond and gold-related activities, it may also
have the effect of encouraging greater participation in financial assets and productive
investment channels, which would be broadly consistent with policymakers' broader
efforts to support economic activity and improve capital allocation. The expert does not
think that probes on crypto assets are likely since crypto/digital assets fit the
government's tech and innovation growth narrative.
UBS continues to be positive on Vietnam's economic growth
