Current state of plants in Kyushu

In this report, we summarize the current status of automakers and auto parts suppliers

based on various media reports as of 14:30 JST on 29 July. We also refer to the

Kumamoto earthquake (seismic intensity seven) of 14 April 2016. In Toyota Motor's [7203]

case, production on assembly lines in Japan was gradually suspended over 18–23 April

2016, and production at all parent company mass production lines was halted over 20-23

April. One reason for this was that a ceiling-mounted crane at Aisin Kyushu fell onto

pressing equipment, and the force in turn caused a metal die to be ejected through a wall

and land outside. Production completely resumed in mid-May.

Automakers have responded to natural disasters such as the Great East Japan

Earthquake of 2011 and the Kumamoto earthquakes in 2016 by taking measures such as

major stockpiling of parts. Accordingly, we think they have stronger supply chains than

before, and currently see limited impact on consolidated earnings.
