Brazil livestock farmers back segregated antimicrobials protocol for EU

exports

Valor reported that Brazil cattle farmers proposed the recently approved protocol

certifying cattle raised without antimicrobials to only apply to producers supplying

beef to Europe, avoiding broader restrictions on the domestic industry. The

proposal was discussed in the Beef Production Chain Chamber and the sector's

position will be formally submitted to the Ministry of Agriculture, while a new

meeting was scheduled for 18 August. The measure faces opposition from

meatpackers, who support the ban of antimicrobials for all players, noting that the

measure is already adopted in other key importers and producers.

We believe measures to enable Brazil beef to return to EU imports (if indeed

banned) would be positive for domestic meatpackers, but flag a wider

antimicrobials ban brings productivity concerns. The EU accounted for only 4% of

Brazil's beef exports in 2025.

China confirms 80% utilization of Brazil's beef quota

Valor reported that China confirmed Brazil has reached 80% utilization of its annual

beef import quota, with 885k tons already internalized in the Chinese market by 21

July.
