The Global Nature Positive Summit 2026 was held in Kumamoto on 14–15 July 2026. It +81 3 6703 1184

was hosted by the Nature Positive Initiative (NPI), with endorsement from the Ministry of

the Environment, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, and the Ministry of

Land, Infrastructure, Transport and Tourism, and Nikkei Business Publications engaged

as the summit manager. Various dignitaries from Japan and abroad delivered welcoming

speeches at the opening ceremony, including Her Imperial Highness Princess Takamado,

the Mayor of Kumamoto City, the Minister of the Environment, the Chairman of Keidanren,

and the Minister of the Environment of Armenia, the host country of the 17th Conference

of the Parties to the Convention on Biological Diversity (COP17), thereby demonstrating

that this was an international conference ahead of COP17.

The summit discussed how to implement nature-related initiatives with an eye to

assessing progress at COP17 in October 2026. The program indicates a shift from theory

to action. Day one kicked off with consciousness-raising about the significance of Nature

Positive, and proceeded to examine the roles that corporations and finance should play,
