Some Brazil agricultural products exemptions from new US tariff

The US government announced a new 25% import tariff on Brazilian products

effective 22 July. Products such as organic sugar were included in the new tariffs,

but several agricultural products were exempted from the measure, such as beef,

coffee, orange juice, and selected seafood products.

The exemption of beef from the import tariffs is positive for Brazilian meatpackers,

particularly in a context of the imminent fulfilment of the China import quota.

Brazilian beef enters the US duty-free within a 52k tons annual import quota shared

by several countries, with a 26.4% tariff applying only to volumes exceeding this

threshold - which has already been exceeded. US accounted for ~1% of Brazil's total

sugar exports, but we flag the country is the key market for Brazil's organic sugar

accounting for ~50% of exports.

BZ government not confident EU to reverse exclusion from beef suppliers

list; poultry could be authorized

Estadão reported that Brazil's government and industry players don't expect an

immediate reversal of the country's exclusion from the EU list of approved beef

suppliers, before the measure takes effect on 3 September.
