Take-aways from SBTi 2.0 webinar: Progress reports to
take centre stage
On 14 July, SBTi hosted a webinar to introduce Version 2.0 of its Corporate Net-
Zero Standard. We provide our key take-aways below, as a complement to our
initial note (see here). In our view, the central question for investors remains:
how will they treat companies that hold SBTi-validated targets but report
limited progress due to external dependencies – and will investors be expected
to make their own judgment on whether a progress report reflects a genuine EMEA Sustainable Investing
best effort? We understand from comments made during the webinar that Research
SBTi is exploring a differentiated claims framework under which the type of Noemie de la Gorce, CFA AC
claim a company can make would depend on the outcome of its progress (44-20) 7134-4229
assessment, although details remain under development. noemie.delagorce@jpmorgan.com
Jean-Xavier Hecker
From ambition to action: The SBTi reiterated the strategic rationale behind the (33-1) 4015 4472
revision: helping companies manage transition risks and opportunities through a jean-xavier.hecker@jpmorgan.com
shift from ambition-setting to an action-focused framework. As we previously Hugo Dubourg
(33-1) 4015 4471
noted, this shift has been broadly welcomed by the investment community. SBTi hugo.dubourg@jpmchase.com
also reported that last year was a record year for new target submissions, with a
Global Coordinator of Sustainable
similar level expected this year and momentum broad-based across regions. Investing Research
