Summary: The Bank of Japan (BOJ) announced the results of its June Tankan survey Takahide Kiuchi

on 1 July. Corporate business sentiment was better than expected, most likely due to
the improved situation in the Middle East since June and falling crude oil prices being
more strongly reflected in the survey than expected. Strong corporate sentiment may
also reflect companies’ success in passing on cost increases to the prices of their
products and services. The June Tankan survey results indicate a shift in focus from
