Last week, JBLU announced its plan to shut down key operations

in Newark and LaGuardia due to rising costs and plans to shift its

focus to airports in Florida, Spirit began soliciting bids for its 22

time slots at LaGuardia Airport, and LUV partnered with AWS to

modernize its key offerings.

JBLU recently announced their plan to shut down key operations at Newark and

LaGuardia airports to shift focus to the more profitable South Florida market.

While JBLU still plans to fly to these hubs and does not plan to lay off employees, it

will close its flight attendant base in Newark and its technical operations bases in

both hubs this fall to support the expansion of services in Florida. JBLU has been

cutting back operations from these airports since 2022 because of rising costs,

noting the steep $40 per customer "enplanement" cost as particularly harmful.

Since Spirit's shutdown, JBLU has expanded its presence to be the largest carrier in

Fort Lauderdale, with plans to add more services to San Diego, Los Angeles, and San

Francisco, among 11 other new destinations.
