the Open Finance payment flow used by Google Pay and Samsung Pay, unifying the
regulatory treatment across both modalities. Notably, the feature remains
unavailable to iPhone users pending resolution of an ongoing dispute between Apple
and CADE, which has been investigating Apple for anticompetitive practices related
to NFC access since April 2025. Our take: The removal of the fixed R$500 cap could
accelerate PIX usage by making the payment journey less frictional and closer to
card tap-to-pay. For STNE and PAGS, higher PIX usage at the POS could shift volumes
away from other payment methods with higher transaction fees.
ABECS: 85% of Brazilians pay their credit card bill on time
According to a quarterly Datafolha survey commissioned by ABECS, and published by
Valor, 85% of Brazilian credit card users paid their full bill on time in March 2026,
avoiding revolving credit (a figure consistent with the 85-90% range the survey has
historically recorded over more than a decade of tracking). More importantly, the
research showed that card usage remains broadly stable, with 76% of the population
using some form of card for payments. On the volume side, credit card transactions
continues to grow (ABECS: TPV was up by ~13%YoY in 1Q26), while BCB data for April
