Our Take: Rathbones (not covered) has disclosed that, following engagement Baron Nkomo AC
with the UK Financial Conduct Authority (FCA), it undertook an independent (27-11) 507-0385

restrictions and a multi‑year remediation plan. This matters for Investec because
it owns a 41.25% stake in Rathbones via its UK Wealth segment (c.9% of Investec’s
earnings). Any near‑term earnings pressure at Rathbones will flow through to
Investec via its share of Rathbones’ equity accounted profits. Rathbones’ shares
were down c.17% at the time of writing this note. Rathbones has guided to an
estimated net remediation cost of c.£60m over two years, plus an additional hit to
2026 underlying profit before tax of £9m from stopping investment management
fees on cash balances from 1 July. Alongside that, it has voluntarily paused
onboarding new high‑risk clients for up to 12 months and paused inflows for 4,700
existing clients, which could weigh on 2026 revenue momentum even if it is not
“existential”. While we have not yet quantified the impact on Investec's FY27
earnings (March year end), we expect downgrades to consensus estimates in the
near term and view this update negatively for Investec.
