CITI’S TAKE
YUMC surprisingly announced its acquisition of PH brand in Mainland
Buy China from Yum! Brands for a cash consideration of US$1.2bn (rep. 18.4x
Price (15 Jun 26 16:00) US$44.25 forward 26E P/E based on Citi’s forecast vs YUMC’s trading 26E P/E of
~15x). We are slightly disappointed that such a sizable M&A at such level Target price US$58.10
of valuation is not spent on new brands/markets to drive topline growth Expected share price return 31.3%
for more EPS accretion (vs current transaction to enhance margins on Expected dividend yield 2.3%
royalty fee savings). In our view, the market has not given a valuation Expected total return 33.6%
discount on YUMC for its no ownership of KFC/PH brands given its long- Market Cap US$15,450M
term licensing agreement. We do not expect immediate re-rating of
YUMC’s trading multiple post-deal. Furthermore, a heavy investment into
an existing brand (which is still at a revitalization stage in the competitive
