Key takeaway of residential ESS expert call

We hosted an expert call with David Zhang, Chief Engineer of ESS/PV seg

of Huawei. Global Resi ESS installations are projected to rise by 50% YoY to

30GWh in 2026, led by EU/Australia, which are expected to see c.15/8GWh

of deployment, acc for over 70% of demand. Subsidies, high power prices

remain key drivers. Other regions face subsidy, channel, and geopolitical

constraints, limiting near-term upside despite strong long-term potential.

EU, Australia driving 50% YoY growth in 2026 global residential ESS installation to 30GWh.

David expects global residential energy storage (ESS) installations to grow by c.50% YoY in

2026 to 30GWh, mainly led by strong demand in EU and Australia, with local policy tailwinds.

Corresponding shipments are expected to hit 40GWh. Europe and Australia combined will

account for over 70% of 2026 global deployments. Expert sees long-term structural upside

in regions like Latin US, SE Asia, ME, etc., but face near-term constraints from subsidy policy

delays, underdeveloped distributor network and geopolitical frictions, hindering the pace of

demand ramp-up.

EU mkt: UK "Warm Homes Plan" and Eastern EU subsidy are the key growth drivers. EU is

expected to see c.15GWh of residential ESS deployment in 2026, growing from 9-10GWh

in 2025. Expert was expecting modest growth (10%+) in 2026 for EU mkt back in 3Q25, he

later saw key incremental demand from UK and Eastern EU countries. David expects the UK

to introduce the “Warm Homes Plan” in 2H26 (England/Other regions is expected to roll
