Meet the Speakers
Dr Barry Humphreys, Aviation Consultant, Former Director of External Affairs Virgin
Atlantic and Head of Air Services Policy at the UK CAA. Aviation Consultant, Former

economist by training, with a PhD in Air Transport Economics from the Univ. of Leeds,
Barry has some 50 years experience in the aviation industry, much of it at senior levels. His
early career was mostly spent with the UK Civil Aviation Authority, where he became Head
of Air Services Policy, a Member of the Senior Management Group. In 1995, he was
appointed Director of External Affairs and Route Development at Virgin Atlantic Airways
with a wide range of responsibilities, where he remained until his retirement in 2009.
Subsequently he served two terms (six years) as Chairman of the British Air Transport
Association (now Airlines UK), the trade body for UK airlines, and was for several years a
Non-Executive Board Member of NATS. Barry is now an aviation consultant. In 2023 his
book, 'The Regulation of Air Transport. From Protectionism to Liberalisation, and Back
Again', was published by Routledge.

Transport equity research team following aviation stocks.
He joined Barclays in 2023 and has been an equity
research analyst since 2000, most recently at HSBC,
achieving consistent high rankings in the II and Extel
transport surveys.
