Seven-Eleven Japan's survey points to younger consumers moving away from Hirotaro Hasegawa

convenience stores Associate Analyst

It has been noted that younger consumers in general are moving away from hirotaro.hasegawa@ubs.com

convenience stores. According to a survey by Seven-Eleven Japan, the proportion of +81-3-5208 6684

customers in their 20s among customers aged 20 and above declined substantially from

21.3% in 2015 to 13.2% in 2025. Meanwhile, based on the Population Estimates by the

Statistics Bureau of Japan’s Ministry of Internal Affairs and Communications, the

proportion of people in their 20s among the population aged 20 and above was broadly

flat, at 12.0% in 2015 and 12.3% in 2025 (Figure 1Seven-Elevencustomershareandpopulationsharebyagegroupamongthepopulationaged20andoverin2015and2025). Based on these figures, at Seven-

Eleven Japan, the proportion of customers in their 20s among customers aged 20 and

above in 2025 was at the same level as the population composition ratio, but compared

with 2015, it is evident that support for Seven-Eleven Japan among younger consumers

has declined.

Data by retail format shows that spending by young convenience store users is

growing notably
