market that TSCO has a handle on its underperformance and is righting the ship.
The broader question is what is a longer-run realistic algorithm for Tractor Supply.
Historically, the company has been viewed as one of retail’s more resilient
operators given its need-based assortment and exposure to rural lifestyles.
However, the company's recent results have exposed limitations to that narrative.
Macro softness has weighed on demand across farm & ranch, pet, and home
improvement, while the company’s pet mix remains skewed toward slower-
growth categories such as dry kibble and underexposed to faster-growing
segments like fresh, frozen, and premium nutrition.
While the company is actively addressing these issues, we believe turnaround will
likely take time. As a result, comparable sales growth may remain capped over the
near-to-intermediate term. Even if Tractor Supply successfully returns to
approximately 3% comp growth in the coming quarters, fixed-cost leverage could
remain modest, keeping operating margins largely range-bound around 9.1%-
9.3%. Combined with ongoing share repurchases, that scenario suggests a
sustainable EPS growth profile closer to 7%-8% rather than the historical 8%-
11% target.
A guidance reset alongside 2Q results could represent a clearing event that allows
