Jesse Zhang, tweeted about how open source models are being treated in the enterprise setting. Decagon runs ~90%

of its workloads on open source models rather than those from frontier AI labs, which is a pattern that Jesse says

is common among fast-growing app companies. Despite this, open source models' share of overall enterprise LLM

spending fell to 11% from 19% a year earlier, which is in contrast with the narrative that open source is gaining ground.

The company attributes its own heavy use of open source to production requirements rather than cost since customer

service applications need small, fast models that are heavily fine-tuned for specific tasks, frontier labs do not generally

that many organizations currently lack. In the end, Jesse argues that open source's share of enterprise LLM spend will

eventually rise but not for several years.
