• Trump Administration Suspends Funding for New York Medicaid Fraud Unit:

The Trump administration has suspended federal funding for New York’s Medicaid

Fraud Control Unit (MFCU) through at least September 30, citing poor performance in

investigating and prosecuting Medicaid fraud and patient abuse. HHS Inspector General

stated that the unit secured only eight or nine criminal indictments in 2023 and 2025,

despite receiving ~$60M annually in federal funding and employing more than 270 staff.

The administration directed the unit to improve its performance before additional funding

is considered and said the suspension is part of broader nationwide efforts to strengthen
